Bayelsa Queens FC, on Match Day 2 of the Nigeria Women's Football League (NWFL), defeated the hard-fighting Ekiti Queens at the Samson Siasia Stadium.
The Prosperity Girls unleashed their power in the first half, with Shakirat Moshood scoring the opening goal in the 17th minute from a loose ball. She made no mistake as she fired home for the opener.
Bayelsa Queens deservedly secured the second goal via a penalty after an Ekiti Queens defender handled the ball in the 18-yard box. Blessing Ilivieda made no mistake, scoring the second goal in the 33rd minute, ending the first half with a two-goal advantage.
In the second half, the Prosperity Girls attempted to increase the tally, but Ekiti Queens stood toe to toe with their hosts, upping their game in a half that produced no goals.
Both teams played good football, but after 90 minutes, Bayelsa Queens secured all three points.
The Technical Adviser of Bayelsa Queens, Domo Okara, commented, "Ekiti Queens are a good side, as they gave my girls a good fight." He added, "Though we won, I was not impressed with the performance of my girls today, but it was an improvement from the first game we played in Akure, and I know they will get better with each game."
Ekiti Queens Coach, Okunwa Egubor, mentioned that the ladies lacked enough courage to do damage against the home team. "My girls tried, as you know they are just two years old in playing football, but they gave too much respect to Bayelsa Queens, and that's why we lost," he said.
Next for Bayelsa Queens FC is an away game against Remo Stars Ladies in a Match Day 3 encounter in Ikenne on Wednesday, November 29.
