Nusa's Debut Goal Secures Leipzig's Victory; Stuttgart Falls to Freiburg in Bundesliga Action

Posted : 25 August 2024

Norwegian teenager Antonio Nusa made a memorable debut for RB Leipzig, scoring the decisive goal in their 1-0 victory over Bochum on Saturday. The 19-year-old, who was brought in to replace Dani Olmo, found the back of the net just four minutes after coming on, firing a long-range shot through a crowded penalty area to give Leipzig the lead. Despite a late scare when captain Willi Orban was sent off for a last-man foul on Myron Boadu, Leipzig held on to secure the win.

In contrast, Stuttgart, last season's surprise runners-up, suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Freiburg. New Stuttgart striker Ermedin Demirovic, brought in to replace the Borussia Dortmund-bound Serhou Guirassy, scored an early acrobatic goal just two minutes into the match. However, Freiburg responded with a low, long-range strike from Lukas Kuebler in the first half, followed by a messy effort from Ritsu Doan early in the second half. Kuebler then sealed Freiburg's victory with a header in the 61st minute, marking a strong start in their first match since the departure of long-term manager Christian Streich.

Elsewhere, Union Berlin managed to salvage a point in a 1-1 draw at Mainz. Laszlo Benes scored a 74th-minute rocket to cancel out Nadiem Amiri's first-half goal, giving Union a hard-fought result under their new manager Bo Svensson, who was previously in charge at Mainz. Union Berlin, who played in the Champions League last season, are looking to stabilize after narrowly avoiding relegation.

In other Bundesliga action, Andrej Kramaric's hat-trick powered Hoffenheim to a 3-2 win over promoted Holstein Kiel, who were reduced to 10 men late in the game. Augsburg and Werder Bremen played out a 2-2 draw, while Borussia Dortmund was set to host Eintracht Frankfurt in the day's late match, following their appearance in last season's Champions League final.
