Nuno Espirito Santo Keeps Grounded as Nottingham Forest Surge

Posted : 07 January 2025

Nuno Espirito Santo remains grounded despite Nottingham Forest's impressive form, which has propelled them into the Premier League title race following a commanding 3-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.

The win, their sixth consecutive league triumph, also marked their joint-biggest margin of the season and their ninth clean sheet. Forest now sits six points behind league leaders Liverpool, whom they will face in a highly anticipated clash next week.

The match against Wolves showcased Forest's efficiency, as they converted all three of their shots on target into goals. However, the result was not without challenges, as goalkeeper Matz Sels delivered a standout first-half performance to keep the visitors in the game.

Reflecting on the win, Nuno expressed pride in his players' hard work and resilience, praising their effort and determination to capitalize on opportunities. "Wolves had chances, and Matz Sels was amazing to keep us in the game," he told Sky Sports. "I'm really proud of the work ethic of the players."

Despite his team's remarkable run, Nuno stressed the importance of staying humble and focused, noting that Forest had yet to achieve their ultimate goals. With 40 points from 20 games, they have matched the tally Leicester City had at the same stage during their historic 2015/16 title-winning campaign.

Nuno reiterated his commitment to continuous improvement, emphasizing the need to develop players as a foundation for the team's and club's progress. "If the players improve, the team will improve, and the city will be happy," he said.

Looking ahead, Nuno acknowledged the confidence his players have gained from their performances, singling out Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga for their creativity against Wolves. However, he reminded his team to remain focused on their immediate task: an FA Cup tie against Luton Town on Saturday. "The performance and the results help with confidence," Nuno said. "But before Liverpool, we have to think about the FA Cup."
