NPFL postpones 2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 2 between El-Kanemi Warriors and Kwara United over flooding

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced the indefinite postponement of the Match Day 2 fixture between El-Kanemi Warriors and Kwara United.


The postponement is due to the emergency situation in Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State, where floods have displaced many communities in the state and the city itself.


The NPFL Match Day 2, originally scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 15, has been postponed to allow for the emergency evacuation of people from the flooded areas.

 


The recent floods in Maiduguri, Borno State, have displaced thousands of residents and impacted schools and businesses. Reports indicate that the overflow of the Alau Dam has caused the worst flooding in 30 years in the state.


It is worth noting that the newly promoted El-Kanemi Warriors, winners of the 2024 President Federation Cup, began their campaign in the elite league with an away draw against the defending champions, Rangers International FC, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium (the Cathedral) in Enugu.
