2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 9: NPFL highest goal scorer, Anas Yusuf, gifts Nasarawa United FC maximum points in Lafia

Posted : 28 October 2024

Nasarawa United FC on Sunday caged the free-scoring Kano Pillars in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 9 at the Lafia Township Stadium.

The Sai Masu Gida had been on a goal spree, notching up an astonishing 10 goals in the previous matches before this game.

However, it was a bad day for the Kano dwellers as the Solid Miners managed to curtail the attacking strength of Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa and veteran 44-year-old Rabiu Ali throughout the entire match.

The 2024/2025 NPFL's current highest goal scorer, Anas Yusuf, was the hero as he scored his ninth goal of the campaign with an emphatic finish.

The match was not without its drama, as Kano Pillars' Ugochukwu Gabriel received a red card in the 43rd minute, forcing his side to play the entire match with 10 men.

The Solid Miners attempted to secure a second goal in the 50th minute, but Kano Pillars' goalkeeper, Tambe, made a double save to deny the goal-bound shot.

Mustapha Umar also missed a close-range opportunity to level the scores for the Sai Masu Gida.

Kano Pillars, however, squandered their last chance in the 72nd minute when Ahmed Musa rounded the goalkeeper and passed the ball to Rabiu Ali, whose attempt went well off target.

Anas Yusuf's goal, the leading scorer in the NPFL 2024/2025 season, came on the day he was named as part of the 35-man list for the CHAN qualifier against Ghana. His goal secured three points for Nasarawa United, bringing them to eight points on the log after Match Day nine.
