The Board of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has expressed dismay at the disturbing pictures and videos from the Shooting Stars versus Ikorodu City league game that have flooded online platforms.
The Chairman of the NPFL, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, stated that the Board would be holding an investigative hearing on Wednesday regarding the incident at the Lekan Salami Stadium during the Matchday 32 fixture.
"We are aware of the unacceptable occurrence and have scheduled a disciplinary meeting to determine appropriate measures to prevent a recurrence," said the league chairman.
He further stated that the investigation aligns with the NPFL Board's zero tolerance for unsporting conduct.
"The Board will consistently act to eliminate all forms of disreputable behavior to keep the league free of unsporting engagements before, during, and after league games," Elegbeleye assured.
