The Matchday 31 encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) between Kwara United and Akwa United, initially scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, has been rescheduled to Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 4:00 p.m.
The rescheduling, requested by Kwara United, aims to provide the team with sufficient preparation time after a long journey to and from their match against Gombe United on Tuesday, which they won 2-1. Kwara United arrived in Ilorin on Wednesday at midnight.
In a letter dated April 18, 2024, and signed by the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the NPFL, Davidson Owumi, titled "Re: Request for change of date (NPFL Week 31 match between Kwara United FC vs Akwa United FC)," the request was conditionally approved by the NPFL.
"Please note that your request falls outside the prescribed time stipulated in Rule B13.10 of the NPFL Framework and Rules, which states that a club may apply to the NPFL to reschedule a fixture not less than 72 hours before the scheduled match time."
The NPFL mentioned that the request constitutes a violation of its Framework and Rules, disrupting the published fixtures and causing financial and logistical inconvenience to the visiting team and other stakeholders and partners of the NPFL.
The request was approved with conditions, which Kwara United has agreed to take full responsibility for.
Therefore, the club Chairman, Kumbi Titiloye, urges fans, supporters, and stakeholders to turn out in large numbers on Sunday to support the club against visiting Akwa United, emphasizing that their support has been crucial in sustaining the team.
