NPFL: Akwa Ibom FA drums support for Akwa United FC

The Akwa Ibom State Football Normalization Committee has expressed its readiness to encourage and support Akwa United FC to succeed in the upcoming 2023/24 Nigeria Premier League season kicking off on Saturday, Sept. 30.
The State FA Normalisation Committee during a pre-season meeting with the management staff of Akwa United at the Conference room of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo made the disclosure.
The Chairman Akwa Ibom State FA Prince Bonny Nyong said that the meeting was necessary to enable the football association know the preparedness of the state flagship team Akwa United ahead of the new season.
Prince Nyong thanked the Chairman of the club, Elder Paul Bassey, the management staff, technical staff and the players for their commitment and dedication towards a better campaign in the upcoming season.
While lamenting the sudden announcement of the league resumption by the organizers and the present economic situation in the country, Prince Nyong pledged the support of the State Football Association to the team, advocating that the team should reintroduce gate takings in all their home games as a way of supporting the club to meet up with many of its financial obligations.
The state FA chairman on behalf of the normalisation committee announced a donation of 50 packs of bottled water to the team, while the Vice Chairman of the committee, Hon. Saturday Akpan announced additional 20 packs of bottled water to help the team during their training sessions and matches and called on all football stakeholders and fans in the state to show their support through buying of the club new jerseys and tickets for home matches.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Akwa United, Elder Paul Bassey congratulated the State Football Association Normalisation Committee on their inauguration and achievements so far and assured that the team was ready for the season with recruitment of quality players as well as a new coach.
He stated that the cost of running football clubs in the country has increased with high cost of fuel, hotel accommodation and other commodities, but promised that the club was determined through the support of the Akwa Ibom State government and all football lovers in the state to put in their best to succeed in the new season.
The meeting was attended by all members of the Akwa Ibom State Football Normalization Committee and key management staff of Akwa United.
Akwa United will take on Bayelsa United at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa in their season opener on Saturday before returning home to welcome Sporting Lagos in the match day two fixture.
