Premier League action chasing Heartland FC of Owerri on Monday condemned FC One Rockect of Uyo to a second defeat and thus set a tone for the latter's elimination from the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs.
Africa Sport Network (ASN) reports that a solitary strike by Heartland FC of Owerri's Olasunkanmi Quadri in the first half condemned the FC One Rockets with a shot at a slot to promotion for his club.
The NNL Super 8 is ongoing at the mainbowl of the Stephen Keshi International Stadium Asaba.
The defeat to FC One Rockets means they stand no chance for a promotion to the elite league again this season.
The coach of FC One Rockets Ndubuisi Ndah, a former Nigerian International after the match, expressed frustration with the results when he said "Football can be very cruel," on the sidelines of the match.
The Uyo based-side is now set to become the first team to be condemned to another year in the 2nd tier of Nigeria Football.
Heartland FC Coach described FC One Rockets, Coach Obi Christian as enterprising.
"They are a very youthful side, a very determined side. They have determination going for them.
"We are going to adjust. We will change the side and adjust to the opposition in the next match,'' he said.
Tuesday is a rest day for all participating teams in the championship.
