Two Lagos clubs, Inter Lagos and Ikorodu City FC, are among the eight teams that will compete for promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League in the Nigeria National League playoffs after securing their spots in the Super 8 on Sunday.
Inter Lagos, playing in their first season in the second division, sealed their place in Enugu with a 2-0 win over Ijebu United, thanks to two goals in either half by Sani Ibrahim and Egbo Othuke at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Ikorodu City also recorded an emphatic 4-0 win over Giant Brillars FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena to secure their place as group leaders.
Both teams emerged from the Southern Conference after Madiba FC, Remo Stars Academy, and Beyond Limits FC had secured their places.
In the Northern Conference, which had been completed weeks earlier, Sporting Supreme of Abuja, Sokoto United, as well as former NPFL sides El Kanemi Warriors and Nasarawa United, all qualified.
The NNL Super 8, which will see four teams gain promotion to the NPFL, will be held in Enugu from June 7-14, 2024.
The chairman of the second-tier league, George Aluo, also confirmed that the Enugu State Government had promised a smooth run of the tournament.
“We at the NNL are grateful to the Governor and the Commissioner of Sports of Enugu State for this kind gesture, and we promise all the participating teams that they will be treated to the best of hospitality the Coal City is noted for, as the governor has equally promised to make all logistics available for a hitch-free championship,” he said.
