The Chairman of the Nigeria National League, Mr. George Aluo, has emphasized that the NNL Board is not willing to compromise the rulebook that guides the smooth operation of the league.
He stated that it's a significant day for clubs that still adhere to the "win at home" syndrome and harass match officials at the venue, urging them to change their approach or exit the league. This follows the news of Malumfashi FC being evicted from the second-tier league.
George Aluo, the NNL chairman, was unequivocal in explaining the reasons behind their decision to expel Malumfashi FC from Nigeria's preparatory league. The journalist-turned-administrator also refuted claims of high-handedness in dealing with issues related to participating clubs, asserting that their actions align with global best practices.
The Lagos-based football administrator pointed out that Malumfashi was not prepared to conduct professional football, turning their venue into a battlefield. He further noted that the club failed to honor two league matches in quick succession.
"Malumfashi has clearly breached the league's rules. Recall that this same Malumfashi FC was expelled from the league alongside Gateway FC.
"We are not playing amateur football; the Nigeria National League is a professional league, and teams that are ready to participate must be professional, not just in words but in all aspects.
"When Malumfashi returned home, their very first game was against Sokoto United. Referees were attacked, and tear gas was fired by the police. That is the only incident we had this season in the NNL.
"As a responsible league board that upholds discipline, we decided to banish them to Kaduna, but they did not honor their match against Sokoto United, and afterward, they did not honor the next two games.
"We took these actions based on the relevant sections of the rulebook. We did not act outside the rules of the game, as it clearly states that if you miss two games, you are out. Thus, the issue of high-handedness does not arise; we cannot compromise the standards. That's why we had to expel Malumfashi from the NNL."
