The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigeria National League (NNL) has approved the format, new rules, and kick-off date for the league’s 2024/2025 season.
According to a communiqué released on Sunday in Bauchi, the meeting also approved the 2023/2024 season league table as presented by the NNL secretariat.
“The new season will kick off on Nov. 30 with a Star Match, followed by other matches a week later,” the communiqué, signed by Yakubu Sarma, the drafting committee chairman, indicated.
It added that a four-conference format of 36 clubs, with nine teams each, was agreed upon for the 2024/2025 season.
“Only stadia meeting the NNL stadium facilities criteria will be approved for the 2024/2025 league season,” the communiqué further indicated.
It also noted that the NNL adopted amended rules and regulations for the 2024/2025 season.
According to the communiqué, monthly awards will be given to the best goalkeeper, best coach, most valuable player, top goal scorer, best-behaved team, and best-performing referee.
The communiqué also stated that only Postar/NNL branded balls and NNL bibs would be allowed in NNL matches.
Additionally, the AGM commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), under Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, for its excellent leadership and support.
“The league also expressed gratitude to Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and the people of the state for hosting the AGM and for their exceptional hospitality,” the communiqué stated.
It also announced the election of Godwin Enakhena as the new President of the NNL Club Owners and Managers Association (NALCOMA).
Furthermore, the meeting approved the nomination of Boniface Alozie Uche as a representative of the Club Owners on the NNL Board.
“The meeting passed a vote of confidence in the NNL Board, led by George Aluo, for successfully repositioning the league and bringing serenity to its operations,” the communiqué concluded.
