The NLO side, Like Minds, against all odds, defeated Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Niger Tornadoes of Minna by a lone goal to win the 2024 Unity pre-season tournament.
The goal came in the 76th minute of the match from Lucky Ojukwu.
The first half ended goalless, and the Ikoh Allah boys missed a penalty kick at the start of the second half.
The Tornadoes had defeated Conac FC 2-0, won 1-0 against 2K-19, played goalless against EFCC, beat Midland 1-0, and eliminated Nasarawa United 4-1 on penalties.
Like Minds FC, on the other hand, played a 2-2 draw with Atlantic in their first match, beat CKD 2-1, defeated Nasarawa United 3-1, won 1-0 against Ejike Ugwoaja FC, and then eliminated 2K-19 FC 3-2.
Speaking immediately after the final match, Babatunde Akintade (Bocknor), Chairman of the Gwagwalada Abuja-based team, praised his players for rising to the occasion.
He expressed gratitude to the organizers of the tournament for providing a valuable platform for the teams to prepare for the new season.
The highlight of the final was the investiture of the Permanent Secretary of the Nasarawa State Sports Ministry, Barrister Isaac Danladi, as the Patron of the Tournament.
In his response after being honored, Danladi expressed his appreciation to the organizers for finding him worthy of the award and promised to do everything in his power to ensure the success of the tournament, which is a flagship event in the Northern conference.
