NLO Match Day 1: Olukismet FC walloped Confluence Stars in Akure

There was no dull moment all through the 90 minutes of action at the Akure township stadium as the 2022–2023 Nationwide League One games got underway in an electrifying atmosphere.

The Akure township stadium was jam-packed. There was much to cheer for and celebrate as spectators were served delicious meals from the Ikere, Ekiti-based Olukismet FC youngsters, who took command and asserted with firm authority that indeed, the game belonged to them. The first half of the encounter ended in a goalless draw.

Olukismet FC created so many scoring chances that they dictated the general tune of the match. The Coach Oladeji Atobaje side came into the second half with more energy as they pushed for the opening goal of the season; they were able to draw the first blood at 55 minutes from Afolayan Gbenga after a beautiful exchange of passes from the midfielders to the attackers.

Kogi-based side Confluence Stars FC tried to restore parity, but the experienced Olukismet FC defender Kunle Odunlami came to the rescue of his team after a lovely interceptions to stop Confluence Stars from restoring parity.

Hollumy boys continue to control the match and continue to look for the second goal, which later happened in the 77th minute of the match from Elanya with a powerful strike, which Confluence Stars goalkeepers don't have answers to. Olukismet FC won the first match of the new season with 2-0 goals against Confluence Stars FC of Kogi State.

Speaking after the match, the team head coach, Oladeji Atobaje, gave kudos to all the players for showing composure as they were able to curtail the pressure mounted by the Kogi-based side from the start of the match.

He was positive that the team would gain promotion to the second-tier league in the country in this ongoing season. Olukismet FC will play their third match against Osopadec FC on May 7, as they had a draw in their second match of the season.
