Former President of the Nigeria Football Association, now the Federation (NFA), Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, has given credit to organizers of the Nationwide League One (NLO) for a near-perfect season kickoff.
ASN reports that Nigeria's third-tier amateur league, NLO, kicked off in Kano on Wednesday evening with a Kano Derby between Kano Pillars Jr. and arch-rival Kwankwasiyya FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium, which ended in a one-all draw to the delight of over 5,000 fans that caught a glimpse of the thriller and a star fixture of Match Day 1.
Galadima, the acting chairman of Kano Pillars, said after the game: "It's heartwarming that Kano hosted the NLO opening 2023 season fixture, which was between, and my presence at the game is my way of showing appreciation to the nation's third-tier league body for this honor."
The season has started on a good note, as it's important to see the development of the National League One. Much emphasis has been placed on the country's top-flight league, but I think we should give more support to the NNL and NLO in order to produce more players that will in the future graduate into the NPFL and various national teams.
"Today's logistics have been near perfect, and we are looking forward to seeing more of such progress that will end up bringing about more development of Nigerian football."
The size of the NLO, with the number of teams, is so intimidating that it will take a lot of organization and commitment to get things done. "It's fascinating that the NLO Secretariat has been able to get things done at a top level, so I am delighted with the smooth season kickoff," he said.
