Nigerians in UCL: Chukwueze, Yusuf, Ejuke underperform in losses

In the recent 2023/24 UEFA Champions League matches, Nigerian players found themselves in various situations on the pitch for their respective clubs.
Samuel Chukwueze, playing for AC Milan, had a somewhat disappointing Champions League debut in a match that ended in a 0-0 stalemate against Newcastle United.
Despite starting the game and getting 60 minutes of playtime, Chukwueze was unable to provide the spark needed to break the deadlock. He was eventually replaced by Christian Pulisic.
During his time on the field, Chukwueze made 36 touches and launched two attempts at goal but failed to find the back of the net.
In a contrasting scenario, Alhassan Yusuf and Chidera Ejuke, who play for Antwerp, were on the receiving end of a 5-0 thrashing from Barcelona.
Yusuf was brought on as a second-half substitute and got a half-hour of action, while Ejuke remained an unused substitute throughout the match.
Barcelona's dominance was marked by goals from Joao Felix, Robert Lewandowski, and Gavi, as well as an own goal.
Over in Manchester, Peter Olayinka and his Red Star Belgrade teammates faced a tough opponent in Manchester City.
Despite being heavily outplayed, Red Star managed to take an unlikely lead. However, Manchester City rallied in the second half to win the game 3-1.
Olayinka had a brief 22-minute cameo but couldn't make a significant impact on the game.
Lastly, Zaidu Sanusi experienced a night of contrasting fortunes with FC Porto.
The team emerged victorious in a 3-1 win against Shakhtar Donetsk, but Sanusi was subbed off at halftime.
The Nigerian defender participated in a frenetic first half that saw all the game's goals scored.
