Young Nigerian midfielder Joel Yakubu has finalized his transfer to Slovan Liberec, a club in the Czech Republic's Premier League, signing a three-year contract. This move was officially confirmed by his previous team, Mahanaim FC, after Yakubu passed his medical examination successfully.
At just 18 years old, Yakubu, who is affectionately known as “Spirit,” has already attracted considerable attention for his exceptional skills and vision on the field. His impressive performances in midfield have set him apart as a rising star in football.
Mahanaim FC, based in Abuja, expressed their pride in Yakubu’s achievements in a statement. The club announced, “We are pleased to confirm the transfer of our midfielder Joel Yakubu (@spiritual_01) to @FCSlovanLiberec. The 18-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the top Czech club following a successful medical. We wish him all the best in Czechia.”
Yakubu also shared his excitement about the transfer on social media. He wrote, “I’m excited to announce that I’ve signed my first professional contract with @slovanliberec in the Czech 1st League! I’m grateful to @mahanaimFC for the solid foundation and to my family, friends, coaches, and the media for their support. I can’t wait to get started!”
The young midfielder drew Slovan Liberec's attention with his standout performances for Mahanaim FC, where he played a crucial role in scoring and providing assists. His move to Europe marks a significant step in his career.
This transfer comes shortly after his former teammate, Yahaya Lawali, also joined a Czech club, MFK Karvina. Yakubu’s move highlights the growing trend of Nigerian talent making an impact in European football.
Slovan Liberec's coach, Jakub Harant, expressed his enthusiasm for Yakubu’s potential, noting, “Joel exhibits excellent ball control, a strong understanding of the game, and composure in finishing. We believe he will continue to develop and play a more prominent role at the club.”
With this new opportunity, Yakubu is set to showcase his talents on a larger stage as he embarks on his professional career in Europe.
