Nigerian striker Akor Adams signs five-year deal with Sevilla

Sevilla has continued to expand its Nigerian contingent by signing 24-year-old forward Akor Adams from Montpellier HSC. The striker joins the Spanish club on a five-year deal, which will keep him at Sevilla until 2029.


Akor Adams becomes the third Nigerian player at the club, joining Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho. His addition brings extra depth to Sevilla's attack, further boosting the club's offensive options. However, rumors suggest that Iheanacho could depart before the end of the transfer window, leaving room for Adams to secure a more prominent role.


The forward arrives at Sevilla following a solid spell at Montpellier, where he made 15 appearances this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists. His time at Montpellier followed a successful stint at Norwegian club Lillestrøm SK, where he had established himself as a key player.


Adams’ breakthrough season in France came in 2023, with the striker making 33 appearances across all competitions, netting 10 goals, and contributing two assists. His performances with Montpellier earned him recognition and a move to Spain’s top division.


Prior to his time in France, Adams began his European journey in Norway, joining Sogndal IL in 2018 after starting his career at Nigeria's Jamba Football Academy. Over three and a half seasons with Sogndal, he made 56 appearances, scoring 16 goals and assisting six times.


In 2022, he moved to Lillestrøm SK, where his form continued to impress. Adams scored 11 goals in 33 matches and made his debut in European competition, featuring in a UEFA Conference League qualifier against Finnish side SJK Seinajoki. His form peaked in the summer of 2023, when he scored 17 goals in just 17 games, briefly topping the European Golden Shoe rankings.


On the international stage, Adams has represented Nigeria at youth level, making two appearances for the U-20 team during the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland. His move to Sevilla aligns with the club’s strategy to reinforce its squad with youthful, dynamic talent, and fans will be eager to see how he contributes to the team's success in LaLiga and European competitions.
