Paul and Clara Dorgu were overjoyed when their son, Patrick Dorgu, scored on his competitive debut for Denmark in a UEFA Nations League match against Switzerland on Thursday, September 9. Originally from Nigeria, Paul and Clara have seen their son achieve a milestone in his football career.
Patrick, who was born and raised in Denmark, made an impressive entrance, scoring his first goal just forty-seven seconds after coming on as a substitute in the 81st minute, replacing Victor Nelsson. This quick goal marked a significant start to his international career.
Before making his senior debut, the 19-year-old Dorgu had represented Denmark at various youth levels, including U18, U19, U20, and U21. His talent at left-back had earned him recognition, leading to his promotion to the senior team following his standout performances with Lecce in Serie A.
Following the match, Paul and Clara Dorgu expressed their excitement and pride in interviews with Danish media. Paul Dorgu shared his amazement with TV2, saying, "It is very, very exciting, and we are very happy about it. I hardly know what to say, but we are very happy."
Clara Dorgu also expressed her gratitude and joy, saying, "Firstly, I want to thank God for everything, because it is He who does everything. I'm really happy, and it's wonderful, because it's the first time he's made the national team. And then he plays well and scores a goal after a few seconds. I am speechless. But it was nice."
The Dorgus are immensely grateful to Denmark for providing Patrick with the opportunity to fulfill his dreams. Paul Dorgu added, "It was a lovely evening and we are very happy. The whole family is here, and so is his agent. We are very pleased with his achievements and the hard work he has put in to make the national team."
On Sunday, Patrick Dorgu made his second appearance for Denmark, coming off the bench for the final twenty-two minutes in a 2-0 victory over Serbia.
