Nigeria upset Italy to win Group D of the U20 World Cup

After defeating Italy 2-0 on Wednesday to maintain their unblemished record in Argentina, Nigeria put themselves in position to advance to the Under-20 World Cup knockout stage.
Senegal lost their opening game against Japan, so they will need some good fortune to go through Group C.
Nigeria took the lead in Mendoza in the 61st minute on a diving header from Salim Lawal, and Jude Sunday sealed it in stoppage time to put pressure on a squad that entered the tournament as one of the favourites.
Nigeria may still advance even from third position in Saturday's final Group D match against Brazil.
On the same day, Italy will play the Dominican Republic. While Italy defeated Brazil 3-2 in a matchup of two of the top teams in international football, Nigeria started the tournament with a 2-1 victory over the Dominican Republic.
In the late games on Wednesday, Brazil defeated the Dominican Republic 6-0 to avenge its defeat to Italy, while Colombia defeated Japan 2-1 despite Kuryu Matsuki's failed late penalty.
