Tim Akinola, the talented defensive midfielder who was part of the 2022 Nigeria Olympic National Team invitees, won't be joining Arsenal's development squad on their training camp in Spain, as he seems poised for a potential transfer before the summer window closes.
Various English Football League and European clubs are vying for his signature, leading Akinola to remain in London to carefully consider his options.
Due to age eligibility restrictions, starting from the 2023-2024 season, Akinola won't be eligible to play for Arsenal's development squad, but he can still be fielded as an overage player in Premier League 2 games.
However, it appears that the defensive midfielder is not part of first-team boss Mikel Arteta's plans, as he was excluded from previous training camps in Germany and the United States.
In the past, Akinola was loaned out to Scottish club Dundee United in the latter half of the 2021-2022 season. Unfortunately, an ankle injury limited his playing time to just one appearance during the loan spell.
Last season, he was with National League club Chesterfield, where he made 30 appearances in the league and FA Cup combined.
Notably, Akinola also featured as a substitute in the National League playoff final, which unfortunately ended in defeat against Notts County.
As Arsenal U21s prepare for their pre-season, their schedule includes friendly matches against teams like Villarreal U21s, Boreham Wood, Chelmsford City, Luton Town U21s, and Bishop's Stortford.
While the young midfielder Tim Akinola may not be part of this particular tour, his future remains a topic of interest as clubs vie for his services in what could be an exciting transfer deal.
