Nigeria-eligible left-back leaves Blackburn for Charlton
Posted : 26 July 2023
Charlton Athletic, an EFL League One club, has officially welcomed Tayo Edun, a versatile left-back of Nigerian descent who previously represented England at youth level, as their newest signing for an undisclosed fee.
Edun has signed a two-year contract with the option of a third year, parting ways with Blackburn Rovers in search of new opportunities.
Although Edun has played competitive games for England's U17 and U19 teams, he remains eligible to represent the Super Eagles at the international level.
At 25 years old, Edun decided to make the move to Charlton after finding limited opportunities at Blackburn Rovers, where he made just four starts across all competitions last season.
Having previous experience in League One, with 51 appearances for Lincoln City, Edun made a notable impact by directly contributing to ten goals (2 goals, 8 assists).
Expressing his excitement about joining Charlton Athletic, Edun emphasized his determination to compete and make a positive impact on the team.
He looks forward to meeting his new teammates and believes that together, they can push forward and achieve great things.
As a European U19 champion with England in 2017, Edun brings valuable experience and skill to Charlton Athletic, becoming their fifth signing of the summer alongside Harry Isted, Lloyd Jones, Alfie May, and Panutche Camará.
Upon joining Charlton Athletic, Edun will join forces with other players like Mandela Egbo, Deji Elerewe, and Chuks Aneke, as they aim to make a mark and achieve success at the Valley.
