The Nigeria Football Federation's Executive Committee has granted approval for the re-appointment of the technical staff for the U-17 Women National Team, Flamingos, under the leadership of Coach Bankole Olowookere. This decision comes after the team achieved Nigeria’s historic podium finish at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India in 2022.
The recommendation for the re-appointment was made by the NFF Technical and Development Committee, receiving subsequent approval from the Executive Committee. Coach Olowookere will continue as Head Coach, along with Adanna Nwaneri (Assistant Coach), Morufu Adeyemo (Assistant Coach), and Abubakar Ndanusa (Goalkeepers’ Coach) retaining their respective positions.
The Flamingos will initiate their qualification journey for this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with an away match against the Central African Republic. The first leg is scheduled for Bangui on the weekend of 2nd – 4th February, while the return leg will take place at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Saturday, 10th February.
With FIFA expanding the number of participating teams to 24 from the previous 16 in India in 2022, Africa now has four slots at the finals. The FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to be held in the Dominican Republic from 16th October to 3rd November this year.
