The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Musa Gusau, has declared that the appointment of Coach Aliyu Zubair, recently named Head Coach of Nigeria's men’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, was based on merit.
Coach Zubair was appointed in September to lead the team in the WAFU Zone B tournament in Togo.
Gusau explained that the appointment was based on Zubair's merit and track record.
He added that the NFF Technical Committee was given full autonomy to work on selecting coaches, and the executive members acted on their recommendation.
The NFF President emphasized that in the appointment of national team coaches, the organization will continue to prioritize merit over any other criteria.
Aliyu Zubair is one of the few coaches in history to have promoted two different teams from the NNL to the NPFL.
