A violent altercation involving Newcastle's captain, Jamaal Lascelles, has prompted an investigation by Northumbria Police.
A video capturing the incident, which unfolded on Westgate Road in the heart of Newcastle city centre, has been circulated on social media platforms.
According to Northumbria Police, a report was received shortly after 4 am on Sunday, 20 August. Officers responded to the situation; however, it is believed that the individuals involved had already departed from the scene before their arrival.
Upon being approached by BBC Sport, Newcastle declined to provide a comment on the matter.
The video footage portrays a group of individuals engaged in physical altercations, with punches and kicks exchanged as the confrontation spilled onto the street.
Jamaal Lascelles, aged 29, joined Newcastle from Nottingham Forest in 2014 and has made 225 appearances for the club. However, he has yet to make an appearance in the ongoing 2023-24 season.
