Enzo Maresca has raised doubts about Wilfred Ndidi's optimistic injury timeline, suggesting the Nigerian's return may not be as soon as indicated. Ndidi, who underwent surgery just a fortnight ago, surprised everyone with a statement on Monday, claiming he would be back playing in a couple of weeks. Maresca, however, has a different outlook, indicating Ndidi might potentially be out until early April, contrary to the player's hopes for a two-week return.
During Monday night's draw with Ipswich, Ndidi was among five senior players missing for City, including Abdul Fatawu, who is serving a three-game suspension. Fatawu's ban covers FA Cup matches, including the upcoming fourth-round tie against Birmingham.
The other three absent players, Harry Souttar and Kelechi Iheanacho, are on international duty, with both Australia and Nigeria advancing from the group stages in their respective tournaments. Iheanacho, who joined the competition late due to injury, has yet to play for Nigeria.
Patson Daka, after scoring a late equalizer against Tanzania, needs a positive result in Zambia's final game against Morocco to progress in the Africa Cup of Nations. Daka's return for Saturday's game against Birmingham is uncertain, but he might be ready for the Championship match against Swansea next week.
