Wilfred Ndidi, midfielder for the Super Eagles, has openly admitted that he is still working on regaining full physical fitness, having recently recovered from an injury that sidelined him for much of the year.
His fitness struggles, at 27 years old, led to his absence from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which was felt by his club, Leicester City, as they faced challenges maintaining control in the English Championship during his absence.
Ndidi returned to play in the Foxes' narrow victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, a match that marked his recovery and enabled him to participate in the Super Eagles' consecutive friendly matches against Ghana and Mali.
Despite just recovering from a prolonged injury layoff, Ndidi has started in the last four games for both his club and country, a demanding schedule that has inevitably impacted his performances.
In anticipation of Leicester City's Championship match against Birmingham at the King Power Stadium, the Nigerian international openly discussed the current state of his physical condition, emphasizing the gradual nature of his return to full fitness.
Ndidi stated, "I'm gradually approaching full fitness, but it's a gradual process. Recovery doesn't happen overnight or after just a game or two."
Moving forward, Ndidi remains focused on his gradual recovery, expressing his commitment to giving his best for the team, while acknowledging that fitness and confidence are built up game by game.
Enzo Maresca, Leicester City's manager, will be relying on Ndidi to rediscover his top form as the Foxes strive to secure promotion to the Premier League.
