Heartland FC head coach Christian Obi and club winger Chukwudi Esobe have asserted that the Owerri side still harbors the conviction that they can remain in the elite division beyond this campaign.

Both shared their thoughts after the club's 3-0 thrashing of Gombe United in an NPFL Match Day 33 fixture at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

Obi, who stated that his boys didn't play according to instructions in the first half, opined that the players perfectly executed most of the information they were given in the second half, which led to the impressive scoreline.

"My boys didn't play according to instructions in the first half, but in the second half, they tried to put into play what we asked them to do," Obi told journalists in a chat.

"It affected the team because our preparation didn't play out here. We prepared, but maybe the break took its toll on them, but we are going to knock it off."

The former Flying Eagles goalie added that the Owerri side put their trust in God and an explosive end to the season for the club's NPFL survival at the end of the season.

"With God, all things are possible. I also believe my boys will put all they have on the line to ensure we finish the season impressively," Obi concluded.

Another Heartland FC personnel who is confident of the Naze Millionaires' topflight stay is Chukwudi Esobe, whose thumping header doubled the club's advantage before the third goal through Promise Anyanwu evaporated the Desert Scorpions' chances in the game.

Esobe, who has now bagged two goals in the ongoing season, exuded his confidence that Heartland FC can still surprise many and beat the topflight drop at the end of the season.

"I'm very happy with the goal and the victory. The win will boost the confidence of the team also. I hope with more hard work, we will escape relegation," Esobe disclosed.

"We didn't plan it this way. We underrated the team. By the grace of God, we are going to escape relegation because I believe there will still be many twists and turns before the end of the season."

Two goals from Promise Anyanwu in the 31st and 88th minutes and another from Esobe in the 49th minute handed the Owerri side a lifeline to pursue their league survival with all aggression.

Heartland FC will face Akwa United on Monday in a Matchday 34 tie.
