Nationwide protest stalls Plateau United’s Unveiling of new players

Posted : 05 August 2024

Plateau United has decided to postpone the unveiling of their new players, initially scheduled for today, due to ongoing protests in various parts of Nigeria. The decision comes amidst a wave of civil unrest that has affected several regions of the country, making it impractical for the club to proceed with the event as planned. The protests, which have been sparked by a range of social and political issues, have significantly disrupted normal activities and public gatherings.

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side has not yet announced a new date for the unveiling ceremony. This delay is a setback for fans and stakeholders who were eagerly anticipating the introduction of the club's new signings. The unveiling was expected to be a major event, marking the start of the new season and giving supporters a chance to meet the fresh faces joining the team.

Under the guidance of Coach Mbwas Mangut, Plateau United has recently completed the signing of eight new players for the upcoming NPFL season. These new additions are anticipated to strengthen the squad as the team prepares for the challenges of the new campaign. The club has been active in the transfer market, aiming to build a competitive team capable of making a significant impact in the league.

Among the new signings are notable players such as former Kwara United goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka and ex-Lobi Stars defender Sunday Chinedu. Adeyinka's experience as a reliable goalkeeping option and Chinedu's defensive capabilities are expected to enhance Plateau United's performance in the league. Both players bring valuable experience and skills that will be crucial for the team in the upcoming season.

With the new NPFL season set to commence on August 31, 2024, Plateau United will kick off their campaign with a home match against newly promoted Katsina United. The opening game in Jos is anticipated to be a challenging encounter, as Plateau United will aim to start the season on a positive note. The match will be an opportunity for the new players to make their debut and demonstrate their contributions to the team.

The postponement of the unveiling event has understandably caused disappointment among fans who were looking forward to seeing the new recruits. However, the club remains committed to ensuring that the ceremony takes place at a more opportune time when the situation in the country stabilizes. Fans are advised to stay tuned for updates regarding the rescheduled date for the unveiling.

In the meantime, Plateau United will continue with their preparations for the new season, focusing on integrating the new signings into the squad and finalizing their strategies for the forthcoming campaign. The club's management is hopeful that the situation will improve soon, allowing them to move forward with their planned activities and give the fans the event they have been eagerly waiting for.
