Nasarawa United FC will have another chance on Sunday to prove that they are a top-flight football outfit when they face the inconsistent Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 22.
Lafia Township Stadium will once again be the battleground for the North Central derby between the neighbors.
The Solid Miners are currently languishing at the bottom of the table with 19 points, making this match a continuation of their battle for survival as they host the Ikon Allah Boys.
The Lafia-based side has struggled since the beginning of the 2024/2025 season and has never gone beyond 15th place on the NPFL log. This means it has been a torrid campaign, and the team now sits at the foot of the table in 20th position despite the Nasarawa State government's heavy investment in the squad.
However, a win against Niger Tornadoes, coupled with favorable results in other relegation battles, could see them climb off the bottom for the first time in seven matchdays.
Nasarawa United lost 2-0 to Shooting Stars in Ibadan last weekend, while Tornadoes secured a 2-1 win over Kwara United in Minna, setting the stage for an intriguing encounter.
Head-to-Head
Since 2018, Nasarawa United and Niger Tornadoes have faced each other in four competitive matches. Nasarawa United has won once, while Niger Tornadoes have won twice, with one match ending in a draw.
