Napoli failed to capitalize on the chance to extend their Serie A lead over Inter Milan, as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Udinese. Scott McTominay put the hosts ahead in the first half with a header from Matteo Politano's corner, but Udinese quickly responded through Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, who leveled the score with a long-range shot just three minutes later.
Despite dominating possession, Napoli couldn't find a winner, dropping points for the second consecutive weekend after a previous 1-1 draw with Roma.
The draw left Napoli unable to stretch their advantage over Inter Milan, who suffered a 3-0 loss to Fiorentina in midweek. That result allowed Napoli the opportunity to extend their lead to six points, but their failure to secure all three points means Inter could reduce the gap back to three if they beat Fiorentina on Monday.
Atalanta, who thrashed Verona 5-0 on Saturday, remain in the title race, sitting just five points behind Napoli and also eyeing their first-ever Scudetto.
In other Serie A action, Lazio returned to the top four with a dominant 5-1 win over last-placed Monza. Adam Marusic opened the scoring for Lazio, and after halftime, Pedro scored twice, and Taty Castellanos added another goal, while Stefano Sensi netted a late penalty for Monza.
The win lifted Lazio to fourth in the table, while Monza's defeat led to the sacking of coach Salvatore Bocchetti, with Alessandro Nesta reportedly lined up as his replacement.
Roma secured a narrow 1-0 victory away to second-bottom Venezia, with Paulo Dybala scoring the decisive penalty in the 57th minute. Roma coach Claudio Ranieri had initially been hesitant to play Dybala due to fitness concerns but praised his determination to feature.
Meanwhile, Bologna, who drew 0-0 with Lecce, fell further behind Lazio in the standings, while Cagliari beat Parma 2-1, with Florinel Coman marking his debut with a stunning long-range goal.
