Crystal Palace edged past Brighton & Hove Albion with a 2-1 victory at Selhurst Park, thanks to a decisive second-half goal from Colombian winger Daniel Munoz. The match was marked by early drama as Jean-Philippe Mateta opened the scoring for Palace just over two minutes into the game, smashing in a powerful strike after receiving a pass from Eberechi Eze.
Brighton responded midway through the first half with Danny Welbeck finishing from close range to level the score.
The second half saw the hosts retake the lead through Munoz, who completed a swift counter-attack with a deflected shot that found the back of the net.
Eze once again played a key role in the build-up, driving forward before setting up Munoz’s winning effort. As the match wore on, tensions flared, and discipline waned with a string of dismissals marring the closing stages.
Palace ended the match with nine men after both Eddie Nketiah and Marc Guehi received second yellow cards. Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke also saw red during stoppage time for a second booking.
The win lifted Crystal Palace to 11th in the Premier League standings with 43 points, narrowing the gap to four points behind Brighton, who remain in eighth.
