Fulham 0-2 Chelsea: Mudryk, Broja shine as Chelsea secures vital victory over Fulham
Posted : 03 October 2023
Mykhailo Mudryk's inaugural goal for Chelsea and a strike from Armando Broja secured a victory for the Blues against Fulham, marking only their second league win of the season.
Since his £89 million transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk in January, Mudryk's tenure at Stamford Bridge had been somewhat mixed. However, his first-half performance appeared to be a potential turning point in his Chelsea career.
In the 18th minute, the Ukrainian winger gave the visiting side the lead. He skillfully controlled Levi Colwill's delicately chipped cross with his chest before calmly slotting the ball past Bernd Leno.
A mere minute later, Broja extended Chelsea's lead, notching his first goal since October 2022, following a challenging period recovering from a knee injury. As a result, Chelsea climbed to 11th place in the Premier League standings.
Fulham struggled to create significant scoring opportunities, with their best chance coming in the second half when Sasa Lukic's close-range shot was expertly saved by Robert Sanchez.
Unfortunately, Mudryk had to be substituted at halftime due to a quad injury. However, manager Mauricio Pochettino expressed optimism that the winger would recover in time for Saturday's match against Burnley.
