Moses Simon shines, makes Ligue 1 TOTW after sixth goal

Moses Simon has been honored for his impressive display in the latest round of French Ligue 1 matches. The forward was included in the Team of the Week by Whoscored.com, a renowned football statistics platform. His recognition comes after a stellar performance for Nantes in their recent league fixture.  


Despite an injury scare during training, Simon managed to pass a late fitness test to be available for selection. His resilience paid off as he played a key role in Nantes’ matchday 23 encounter against Lens at Stade de la Beaujoire. His presence on the field proved crucial for his team.  


Simon made a significant impact in the game by scoring Nantes' second goal from the penalty spot in the 60th minute. The opportunity arose after a Lens defender handled a shot from Jean-Charles Castelletto, allowing Simon to calmly convert from twelve yards. His goal gave Nantes a comfortable advantage in the match.  


In the Team of the Week, Simon was positioned on the left side of a three-man attack in a 4-3-3 formation. He was joined by OGC Nice’s Gaëtan Laborde, who played centrally, and AS Saint-Étienne’s Irvin Cardona, who occupied the right-wing position. This attacking trio was recognized for their outstanding contributions.  


The midfield in the lineup featured Zakaria Aboukhlal from Toulouse, Hicham Boudaoui of OGC Nice, and Pierre Ekwah from Saint-Étienne. The defensive setup included a back four comprising Aron Dønnum (Toulouse), Jubal (Auxerre), Clément Akpa (Auxerre), and Nicolas Pallois (Nantes), with RC Lens goalkeeper Mathew Ryan selected between the posts.  


Simon’s individual performance in the game was remarkable. He attempted two shots, with one on target, and created one key pass. Additionally, he completed a game-high five successful dribbles—one less than the entire Lens team combined. He was also among the most fouled players, suffering three fouls during the match.  


The Nigerian winger demonstrated exceptional accuracy, completing 90 percent of his passes. His overall performance earned him a high rating of 8.25. So far this season, Simon has been directly involved in thirteen Ligue 1 goals, with six goals and seven assists, further solidifying his influence in Nantes’ campaign.
