Alvaro Morata led Atletico Madrid to victory over city rivals Real Madrid, ending Real's perfect start to the La Liga season. The scoring started early as Morata, a former Real player, converted Samuel Lino's dangerous cross in just four minutes.
Antoine Griezmann added to the lead with a header, making it 2-0, but Real fought back when Toni Kroos struck a fine low shot.
Morata, however, sealed Atletico's win with another header, rising highest to meet Saul Niguez's delivery in the second half.
This victory propelled Atletico to fifth place in the table, while Real dropped points for the first time this season and now sits third, trailing leaders Barcelona and Girona.
Before this match, Atletico had won just one of their last 14 La Liga Madrid derbies, but they surprised their rivals with two early goals and defended effectively for the rest of the game.
Jude Bellingham, the English midfielder who has impressed since joining Real in the summer, couldn't find his usual form and received a yellow card for a poor challenge on Angel Correa in stoppage time.
Despite scoring six goals in his first six appearances for Real, this match marked his first defeat as a Real Madrid player.
