Monaco faced a setback in their quest for a higher position in Ligue 1 as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at home against Toulouse. Toulouse took the lead in the 41st minute through Vincent Sierro's well-placed free-kick. Monaco responded quickly after the break, with Maghnes Akliouche leveling the score, but they struggled to convert numerous other opportunities, notably a missed chance by Folarin Balogun.
Balogun, in particular, had a tough outing, failing to capitalize on a one-on-one situation with Toulouse's goalkeeper and squandering another close-range opportunity. Toulouse seized the advantage in the 70th minute when Logan Costa capitalized on a corner to find the net. The defeat keeps Monaco in the fourth position with 38 points, level with Lille and one point behind Nice, who suffered a 1-0 loss to Lyon.
Paris Saint-Germain, after their 2-0 victory against Nantes, maintains a commanding lead at the top with 53 points, 14 ahead of Nice. Brest, with 37 points, has the opportunity to claim the second spot with a win in the late Sunday game against Marseille.
On the other hand, Rennes extended their winning streak to six games with a 3-1 triumph over bottom-placed Clermont. Martin Terrier's brace and Warmed Omari's contribution secured the victory, bringing Rennes to the seventh position with 34 points, within reach of European qualification.
Despite Ludovic Blas's 38th-minute penalty being saved by Clermont's goalkeeper Mory Diaw, Rennes continued their impressive form. Clermont remains rooted at the bottom with just 16 points, one less than Metz, who suffered a 3-0 defeat against Montpellier. Lorient managed to climb out of the relegation zone with a 3-1 victory over Strasbourg, featuring a notable performance from new signing Mohamed Bamba, who scored twice.
