Mohamed Salah stays at Liverpool as Saudi transfer window closes

Posted : 08 September 2023
Mohamed Salah will be staying with Liverpool as the Saudi Pro League transfer window came to a close without any further attempts to secure his services. Last week, Al Ittihad had their offer of up to £150 million ($190 million) for the Egyptian international rejected by Liverpool. There were speculations that Al Ittihad might make another bid for Salah on the transfer deadline day, but that didn't happen.

Throughout the transfer window, Liverpool had been resolute in their stance that Salah would not be allowed to leave Anfield, especially after several former key players like Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mané, Fabinho, and Roberto Firmino moved to Saudi clubs during the summer.

After Salah scored in Liverpool's 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, manager Jurgen Klopp reiterated that the 31-year-old forward was fully committed to the club. Klopp emphasized that Salah's actions, both on the training ground and on the pitch, spoke louder than words, and there was no indication from Salah that he had any intention to leave.

While Salah's future remains a topic of discussion, the possibility of a move may arise once again when the transfer window reopens in January. Salah is expected to return to action for Liverpool when they face Wolves after the international break.

Despite speculation that Salah might make a high-profile move, the Saudi transfer window concluded relatively quietly. Other notable transfers included Demarai Gray's move from Everton to Al Ettifaq and Luiz Felipe's transfer from Real Betis to Al Ittihad. Although there were rumors about Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho possibly making a move, it did not materialize.

The Saudi clubs made significant moves during the summer transfer window, with a total expenditure of $1 billion, showcasing their ambition in the transfer market.
