Mohamed Salah criticizes Liverpool for missing out on the Champions League
Posted : 26 May 2023
After Manchester United secured the final top-four berth in the Premier League on Thursday, Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah stated there was no justification for his team's inability to go to the Champions League the following season.
"I'm totally devastated," Salah tweeted.
"There's absolutely no excuse for this.
"We had everything we needed to make it to next year's Champions League and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum. I am sorry but it's too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down."
With one game remaining, Liverpool are certain of finishing fifth and qualifying for the Europa League thanks to Man United's 4-1 victory against Chelsea. Since Salah joined the squad in 2017, Liverpool has never failed to make it into Europe's premier club tournament.
A 1-1 home draw with Aston Villa on Saturday basically put an end to Liverpool's ambitions of finishing in the top four after they had won seven straight games to get back in the mix.
Liverpool has reached three Champions League finals under manager Jurgen Klopp, winning one, in the last five seasons but he said that "we were too long not good enough ourselves."
