Midfielder Mohamed Elneny announced on Friday that he will leave Arsenal at the end of the season, marking the end of his eight-year tenure with the Premier League club. The Egypt international joined Arsenal from Swiss side FC Basel in 2016 for £5 million and has made 161 appearances for the London club. However, a knee injury limited the 31-year-old to only eight appearances during the 2022-23 season and six appearances in the current campaign.
In a heartfelt video message posted on X, Elneny expressed his gratitude to the Arsenal fans. "Gooners, I'm here today to send you a message, to say goodbye and thank you for everything you've done for me," he said. "The love, the support, and the kindness. I'm really going to miss you so much and you'll be in my heart forever." Elneny did not disclose his next destination after leaving Arsenal.
Elneny will bid farewell to fans at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, as Arsenal host Everton in their final league match of the season. The Gunners are hoping for a slip-up by Manchester City against West Ham United to secure their first league title in 20 years.
