Mikel Obi, the retired Super Eagles midfielder, opened up about his experience playing under the management of Jose Mourinho during his time at Chelsea. Mourinho brought Mikel to Chelsea in 2006, where the Nigerian midfielder became a highly influential figure in the club.
Mikel played 119 games under Mourinho's guidance across two separate stints, showcasing the Portuguese manager's trust in him. Mourinho was known for being demanding and often used tough tactics to motivate his players to perform at their best.
In a recent interview, Mikel shed light on Mourinho's behavior, emphasizing that the coach's affections were largely reserved for players when the team won games. When the team suffered a loss, Mourinho's demeanor changed significantly.
Mikel recalled how Mourinho would react to losses, isolating himself in his office for a couple of days. During this time, he wouldn't communicate with anyone and would even avoid interactions with players, such as not joining them in the restaurant.
Despite the challenging atmosphere Mourinho created, his methods yielded results at Chelsea, with the team winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup titles during his tenure.
