After speculation about Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta's future, the club has officially confirmed a two-year extension to his contract, keeping him at the helm until 2027. Arteta, 42, cited his commitment to Arsenal's ambitious goals as a key factor in his decision to remain. "I decided to stay because the people here are ready to take this club to the next level and win," he stated.
Arteta, who took over as Arsenal manager in December 2019, has played a significant role in the club's recent successes, guiding them to the top of the Premier League standings. Over the past two seasons, Arsenal finished as the runner-up in the league, placing them among the elite alongside Manchester City and Liverpool.
His previous contract was set to expire at the end of this season, leading to speculation that he might be a candidate to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, given that Guardiola is also in the final year of his contract. Arteta, who previously served as Guardiola's assistant at City, has kept his future plans close to his chest.
Under Arteta's leadership, Arsenal spent 248 days at the top of the Premier League two seasons ago but ultimately lost the title to Manchester City. Last year, they narrowly missed out on the championship, finishing just two points behind the Cityzens.
