Mikel Arteta Backs Kai Havertz to Lead Arsenal's Attack Amid Injury Crisis

Mikel Arteta has expressed his confidence in Kai Havertz, calling him a "genetic powerhouse" and praising his resilience as a key asset for Arsenal. With the club failing to sign a forward in January, despite efforts to acquire Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa, Arteta believes Havertz can help fill the attacking void.

 

This is particularly important as Arsenal navigates the challenges of competing on multiple fronts, including the absence of key players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus. Saka is out with injury until at least next month, while Jesus will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

 

Havertz, who joined Arsenal from Chelsea for £65 million in 2023, has been central to Arteta's plans. Arteta suggested that it was possible Havertz could play every game for the rest of the season, noting his physical robustness and work ethic.

 

 Havertz has proven his durability by scoring nine goals in the Premier League, including a crucial goal in Arsenal's 5-1 victory over Manchester City. Arteta highlighted the midfielder's commitment to his fitness, noting that Havertz goes above and beyond in maintaining his professional standards.

 

Despite his impressive work ethic, Havertz has faced criticism for some missed opportunities, especially during a difficult stretch for Arsenal last month. However, Arteta continues to back him, emphasizing the player's ability to stay fit and available, a key quality in a season where Arsenal's squad depth is being tested.

 

 Arteta also praised Havertz's intelligence and understanding of his body, which allows him to manage his workload effectively and remain competitive.

 

In addition to discussing Havertz, Arteta confirmed that Arsenal is in the process of appointing a new permanent sporting director.

 

 This comes after the resignation of Edu in November, who is set to lead a multi-club model under Nottingham Forest's owner. Arteta indicated that the decision on a new sporting director would be made soon, with interim sporting director Jason Ayto among the candidates under consideration.
