Michel Urges Girona to Build on Positive Performance Despite Draw with Rayo Vallecano

Girona manager Michel expressed optimism following his team's recent scoreless draw against Rayo Vallecano, urging his players to replicate that performance more consistently. Despite being winless in their last four matches across all competitions, Girona dominated possession with over 70% during the game but struggled to convert their chances into goals. Michel believes that if his team can maintain the same level of play they exhibited against Rayo, they will see more positive results.

 

Currently sitting 12th in the LaLiga standings with eight points from seven matches, Girona's form contrasts sharply with their impressive performance last season when they finished third after challenging the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. Michel noted that the current squad is different from last year’s team, emphasizing the importance of not drawing comparisons. He praised the team's effort against Rayo, indicating that if they had shown similar consistency in prior losses to Valencia and Barcelona, he would feel more satisfied.

 

The Girona coach expressed confidence in his team’s ability to improve their goal-scoring capabilities, stating that they need to work on finishing their plays more effectively. He highlighted the need to find the right timing and rhythm during training sessions to enhance their attacking output. Despite the goal drought, Michel reassured that he was not overly concerned, suggesting that the potential for better results is still within reach.

 

Looking ahead to their upcoming match against Celta Vigo, who are currently 10th in the league, Michel acknowledged the challenges posed by their opponents. He commended Celta for their strong ball circulation and noted their solid home form, aside from a recent loss to Atletico Madrid. Michel emphasized that his team must focus on imposing their style of play, ensuring effective possession, and reaching the opponent's goal with greater precision.
