Attacker Michael Olise has made a significant impact at Bayern Munich, establishing himself as a key player despite a delayed start to his Bundesliga career. Coach Vincent Kompany spoke about Olise's integration into the team ahead of their upcoming match against Werder Bremen, highlighting the young forward's rapid adaptation since joining from Crystal Palace for €60 million ($66.99 million) in July. Although Olise spent much of the pre-season representing France at the Paris Olympics, where he earned a silver medal, he has quickly become an essential part of Bayern's squad.
The 22-year-old has participated in all five of Bayern's matches this season, netting three goals. Kompany expressed his satisfaction with Olise's condition upon arriving at the club, stating, "It wasn't that bad that he went to the Olympic tournament, because he arrived in really good shape." The coach acknowledged that adjusting to the Bundesliga and a prestigious club like Bayern is challenging, but he remains optimistic about Olise's potential for further development.
Bayern Munich currently leads the Bundesliga standings with nine points from three matches, sitting two points ahead of second-placed Borussia Dortmund and third-placed RB Leipzig. The upcoming fixture against Werder Bremen marks the 115th meeting between the two teams, a matchup that Kompany described as a traditional and historic fixture. He reflected on his own experiences in the Bundesliga, noting that encounters between Bayern and Bremen were once top-of-the-table clashes and emphasizing the significance of this game.
As for the team’s preparations, Kompany mentioned that a late decision would be made regarding veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer's participation, following his substitution at halftime during a recent 9-2 Champions League victory over Dinamo Zagreb. "Neuer should join training today, and we'll decide after that," he said. On a lighter note, the coach expressed excitement for Oktoberfest, which begins on the same day as the match, while emphasizing that the team's focus remains solely on the upcoming game against Werder Bremen for now.
