Tudor Mendel-Idowu, the talented Flying Eagles-eligible winger, bids farewell to Chelsea as he embarks on a new chapter with Belgian powerhouse Anderlecht, signing a three-year deal with an option for an extra season.
Having joined Chelsea at the U9 level, the England youth international of Nigerian descent decides not to extend his contract with the Blues, choosing the challenge presented by Anderlecht.
Previously with a verbal agreement to join Barcelona's B team, Mendel-Idowu's move was ultimately secured by Belgium's most successful team in history.
He left a lasting impression in his final season at Chelsea, contributing to nine goals in twelve outings in the U18 Premier League, and also making appearances in the Papa Johns Trophy and UEFA Youth League.
In a heartfelt statement shared on Instagram, accompanied by a video showcasing his best moments as a Chelsea player, Mendel-Idowu expresses his gratitude to the Chelsea fans for their unwavering support throughout the years.
He fondly remembers his first training session as an under-8 and extends his appreciation to all the coaches who contributed to his journey.
He acknowledges the academy staff for their support, which allowed him to continue his education at Eton while representing Chelsea—an opportunity he deeply values and cherishes.
Having grown not only as a player but also as a man during his time at the club, Mendel-Idowu expresses his heartfelt thanks to Chelsea and bids farewell, saying, "Till next time."
