Megan Rapinoe to play soccer in US friendly against South Africa

Megan Rapinoe, renowned in the world of soccer, is set to take the field for her ultimate match representing the United States in a friendly encounter against South Africa on September 24th.
Rapinoe boasts an impressive resume, having participated in four World Cups and securing victory in both the 2015 and 2019 editions. Prior to the commencement of the 2023 World Cup, she publicly affirmed her retirement plans, intending to conclude her illustrious career as the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) season wraps up in November.
Reflecting on her journey, Rapinoe remarked, "When I think back on the past 30-plus years of playing this game, my overriding emotions are joy and gratitude." She expressed her excitement about the upcoming opportunity to represent her country one last time, conveying her eagerness to extend gratitude to her teammates and all those who have influenced her growth as both a player and an individual over the years.
Megan Rapinoe, a recipient of the prestigious 2019 Ballon d'Or award, has an impressive track record, featuring 203 appearances for the USA and 63 goals. She also played a pivotal role in securing a gold medal for her country during the 2012 Olympics held in London.
In a twist of events, Rapinoe, now 38 years old, was initially thought to have made her final international appearance when the United States exited the 2023 World Cup following a penalty shootout against Sweden in the round of 16. However, she is now gearing up to participate in two friendly matches against South Africa on September 21st and 24th. The latter, scheduled to take place at Soldier Field in Chicago, is being widely acclaimed as Rapinoe's "farewell game."
The forthcoming chapter in Rapinoe's professional journey will conclude on October 15th as she bids adieu to her career in conjunction with OL Reign's final game of the NWSL season against Chicago Red Stars.
