Mbappe to Lead Real Madrid's Attack Against Liverpool Amid Injury Crisis

Posted : 26 November 2024

With Vinicius Junior sidelined due to injury for Real Madrid's upcoming Champions League clash against Liverpool, Kylian Mbappe will become the team’s primary attacking threat. The French forward has had a challenging start to his time in Madrid, both on and off the pitch, but he scored his first goal in five matches during Madrid's 2-0 victory over Leganes in La Liga on Sunday.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti fielded Mbappe on the left wing, his preferred position, and he responded by opening the scoring, with Vinicius providing the assist.

Despite the goal, Mbappe's performances have been somewhat underwhelming given his high profile. His record of seven La Liga goals in 12 appearances is solid, but he has yet to replicate that form in Europe, scoring only once in the Champions League.

Mbappe, who was left out of France's last two international squads, believes he is starting to find his rhythm with Madrid. After the Leganes match, he expressed confidence in his growing understanding with his teammates, emphasizing his versatility and readiness to contribute in any attacking role.

Ancelotti, who had been reluctant to deploy Mbappe on the left ahead of Vinicius, made the tactical switch for the Leganes game, and Mbappe delivered with a goal.

Ancelotti explained that the change was partly due to fitness concerns, as Vinicius had returned late from international duty, while Mbappe was fresher.

This adjustment suggests that Mbappe may play a central role in upcoming matches, including against Liverpool, possibly alongside Jude Bellingham, who has been used in a deeper role this season.

Madrid's injury crisis, including absences for key players like Vinicius, Rodrygo, and several defenders, has put further pressure on Mbappe. Off the pitch, he is also dealing with personal and legal challenges, which have added to the scrutiny on his performances.

Ancelotti has expressed support for the striker, dismissing rumors about his mental health and insisting that Mbappe's form will improve. With the upcoming match against Liverpool crucial for Madrid's Champions League hopes, Mbappe will need to step up and deliver once again.
