Real Madrid's announcement of Kylian Mbappe's signing on Monday marked the closure of one of football's biggest recent transfers. However, Mbappe's comments during a French team press conference have sparked tension with his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Mbappe expressed dissatisfaction, claiming that he faced pressure to sign a contract last summer or risk not playing the entire season.
Mbappe's remarks did not sit well with PSG, who labeled them as "disrespectful and classless." The club disputed Mbappe's claims, stating that owner Nasser Al-Khalaifi never intervened in professional matters. PSG emphasized their commitment to revealing the "whole truth" at the right time while maintaining professionalism and respect for fans and the team.
Having spent seven seasons with PSG, Mbappe left as a free agent after becoming the club's all-time leading scorer with 255 goals. Despite his successes in France, including six league titles and four cups, he did not lead PSG to a Champions League victory. Now, Mbappe heads to Real Madrid with a reported annual salary of around 35 million euros and a significant signing bonus, after his most prolific season with PSG, scoring 44 goals in 48 appearances.
