Mbappe Frustrated as Real Madrid Held to 1-1 Draw by Resilient Mallorca

Kylian Mbappe's highly anticipated LaLiga debut for Real Madrid ended in frustration as the defending champions were held to a 1-1 draw by a determined Real Mallorca side. Despite an early goal from Rodrygo Goes, Madrid struggled to secure a win as Mallorca's goalkeeper, Dominik Greif, denied several attempts from Mbappe. The hosts managed to equalize in the second half with Vedat Muriqi's powerful header, leaving Madrid unable to find a decisive goal.

 

Real Madrid, fresh off their UEFA Super Cup victory, fielded the same starting lineup with Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo leading the attack. However, they found it difficult to break down Mallorca's resolute defense. As the match progressed, it was Mallorca who looked more likely to score, especially in the closing stages at Son Moix Stadium. The situation worsened for Madrid when Ferland Mendy was sent off in stoppage time for a reckless challenge on Muriqi.

 

Under the guidance of Jagoba Arrasate, who was managing his first match for Mallorca, the team put up a strong fight against the reigning champions. Arrasate's strategy to keep his players focused and disciplined paid off, as they managed to stifle Madrid's star-studded lineup. Even with veteran Luka Modric brought on to add creativity, Madrid couldn't break through Mallorca's defensive setup.

 

Mallorca's equalizer came early in the second half when Muriqi connected with a Dani Rodriguez corner, sending a towering header past Thibaut Courtois. Despite Madrid's efforts to reclaim the lead, including close attempts from Mbappe and Vinicius, Greif's goalkeeping and Mallorca's solid defense ensured the match ended in a draw, leaving Mbappe's league debut less than ideal.
