Mbappé's departure signals PSG revamp as Al-Khelaifi plans aggressive summer transfers

Posted : 16 February 2024

Kylian Mbappé's imminent departure from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) as a free agent this summer appears to be confirmed, with reports indicating that the French star personally informed President Nasser al-Khelaifi of his decision.

Despite potential disappointment, al-Khelaifi appreciated Mbappé's face-to-face disclosure, acknowledging the likelihood of the move. The upcoming departure marks a contrast to last summer's tensions when Mbappé declined a contract extension, leading to his exclusion from pre-season games in the Far East. However, this time, no sanctions are expected, with Mbappé's promise to keep al-Khelaifi informed.

With Mbappé set to forgo the loyalty fee as per a "gentleman's agreement," PSG stands to save approximately €200 million for the upcoming season. This financial relief positions the club to be aggressive in the summer transfer window, targeting players like Napoli's Victor Osimhen and AC Milan's Rafael Leao. PSG, as per Fabrizio Romano, is keen on securing a senior attacking player, midfielder, and defender to strengthen their squad.

Two emerging talents, Warren Zaire Emery and Xavi Simmons, are anticipated to play crucial roles in the revamped PSG. The 17-year-old Frenchman, Emery, is expected to sign a contract extension with a significant salary upgrade, while the Dutch midfielder, Simmons, currently on loan at R.B. Leipzig, will return to PSG, where discussions for a new contract will be initiated.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni, a friend of Mbappé in the French national team, has stirred speculation on social media with a tweet featuring two buckets of popcorn, adding fuel to the excitement about the potential collaboration between the two tricolour players at Blancos next season.
